VOKASI NEWS – The Faculty of Vocational, Universitas Airlangga, hosted the 7th ICVIAS 2025 under the theme of multidisciplinary collaboration for a healthier world, featuring experts from Indonesia, Japan, and Australia.
The Faculty of Vocational, Universitas Airlangga, demonstrated its international presence through the 7th International Conference on Vocational Innovation and Applied Science (ICVIAS). The event was held on October 21, 2025, at Majapahit Hall, 5th Floor, ASEEC Building. Carrying the theme “Multidisciplinary Collaboration for a Healthier World: Building Resilient Communities through Innovations Across Health, Engineering, and Business.”
The conference was officially opened with welcoming remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational, Chairperson Drh. Shelly Wulandari, M.Si., Ph.D., and the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development. In their speeches, the university leaders emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary synergy as a key to facing global challenges, particularly in the fields of health, technology, and business.
This annual conference brought together national and international experts to share insights and recent research findings. Participants included academics, researchers, and students from various institutions across Indonesia and abroad.
Digital Innovation for the Future of Healthcare
Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr., M.Kes., Sp.PD-KGEH, Ph.D., FINASIM, as the first speaker. Discussed the importance of digital transformation in healthcare systems. Through his presentation titled “Transforming Healthcare through Innovation & Digital Collaboration.” He highlighted the role of technology, such as telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and data analytics in improving service efficiency.
Prof. Miftahussurur also showcased Universitas Airlangga’s innovative initiatives, including research collaborations between UNAIR and ITS in developing technology-based medical devices. Notable innovations such as the RAISA robot nurse and an intelligent COVID-19 classification system. These projects xemplify how multidisciplinary collaboration can lead to sustainable solutions for society.
One Health Approach from a Veterinary Perspective
Prof. Hiroshi Shimoda from Yamaguchi University, Japan, emphasized the significance of the One Health approach in preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases. Through his research in veterinary microbiology, Shimoda emphasizes the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration. Cooperation between veterinarians, environmental experts, and health workers is crucial to address the risk of diseases from animals and the environment.
Shimoda also presented surveillance findings on various infectious diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and wild animals across Asia. Including the Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) and Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS). These cross-sectoral efforts play a vital role in building resilient global communities capable of responding to emerging infectious threats.
Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Education and RNA Research
The final speaker, Dr. Adi Idris, Ph.D., FRSB, explored the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in biotechnology and higher education. Adi explained how AI is applied to teach undergraduate students RNA drug design through an interactive in silico laboratory activity.
This initiative supports research-based learning while fostering collaboration between health sciences, biotechnology, and information technology. The integration of AI into education is expected to nurture a generation of scientists who are adaptive and innovative in responding to global scientific advancements.

Through the 7th ICVIAS, the Faculty of Vocational, UNAIR, reaffirmed its role as a center for multidisciplinary collaboration driving innovation for global well-being.
