VOKASI NEWS – Students from Business Department of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga, hold an international community service on Tuesday (28/4/2026) as part of the student outbound program in Malaysia. This activity is a collaboration between UNAIR and PERMAI Pulau Pinang, which is an Indonesian community forum in Malaysia dedicated to support social and educational initiatives for Indonesian children who live in Penang.
Interactive Cultural Exchange and Visual Learning
The community service activities began with an energetic ice-breaking session and a Q&A about Indonesian culture. Children were introduced various aspects of Indonesian culture through an easy and engaging questions about provincial capitals, traditional foods, and Indonesian wayang characters. The children even get the chance to express themselves through a drawing activity. This lively interaction between students and participants created a friendly and fun environment where the interactive approach clearly boosted the children’s confidence to participate in every session.
The core of the event focused on healthy literacy, specifically a workshop on dental and oral hygiene. Utilizing dental ‘phantom’ models, the students explained the essentials of oral case and demonstrated a proper brushing technique to capture the children’s interest. Muchamad Sholakhuddin Al Fajri, the Head of the English Diploma, noted the significance of the event, “This outbound program represent our commitment to the Three Pillars of Higher Education. Through this international outreach, we aim to produce graduates who are professionally competent and also globally aware with the social life.”
Fostering Global Connections and Social Impacts
Through this collaborative project with PERMAI Pulau Pinang, students delivered educational activities designed to provide health awareness while introducing Indonesian culture in a fun and interactive way. This program is expected to provide an enjoyable learning experience for the children at PERMAI Pulau Pinang while strengthening the sense of community among the Indonesian diaspora. The program offers invaluable experience for students to enhance their communication skills, teamwork, and social awareness within an international context.
