VOKASI NEWS – The Occupational Safety and Health Student Association, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Airlangga University held an Alumni Lecture I activity. This activity was held on Sunday, April 9, 2023 from 08.00 to 11.00 WIB via Zoom Meeting and Live Youtube with the concept of sharing sessions with alumni. The theme raised this time is quite interesting, namely “HSE Career Preparation from Fresh Graduates in the Occupational Health and Safety Field of Mining and Oil and Gas”. The purpose of this activity is none other than to establish family relationships with alumni and broaden insight into the world of work based on the experience gained from alumni, especially for Occupational Safety and Health students at Airlangga University.
The activity began with remarks by Mrs. Ratih Damayanti, S.KM., M.Kes as the Coordinator of the K3 Study Program and Dr. Tika Widiastuti, SE., M.Si as Deputy Dean I of the Vocational Faculty. Tika stated that the theme “HSE Career Preparation for Fresh Graduates in the Field of K3 Mining and OHS and Oil and Gas” is very important and relevant considering that in the current era the world of work is experiencing quite rapid development, especially in the mining and oil and gas industry. The contribution in the industrial sector is quite significant, around 25% of the state revenue obtained in Indonesia comes from mining and oil and gas. This shows that this field can support the growth and development of a country’s economy so that various innovations and methods of occupational safety and health quality standards are needed, both nationally and internationally.
In the Alumni Lecture I activities, D3 K3 Alumni Azka Hifzhan Nanda, A.Md, KKK and Savirah Vivian Rezalia, A.Md, KKK have the opportunity to become presenters. They explained several things regarding tips & tricks to become successful fresh graduates in the world of work, especially for jobs in the mining and oil and gas sectors. There are many things that must be considered, starting from increasing experience by actively focusing on participating in street vendors and apprenticeships in accordance with the desired work sector, deepening competencies related to lecture material, increasing soft skills and self-esteem, and always updating information on developments in the global industrial world. In addition, they advised “As new graduates, don’t be oriented towards a large salary. The hope is to get a job in which you can hone your skills, gain relationships, and increase your skills, because later big companies will look for you with a salary that you set yourself.” Therefore, proper preparation is needed so that someone will be able to get a good career.
The Alumni activities will be held again in June, given the great enthusiasm of the participants. This was shown in the question and answer session, where many participants asked several questions to the speakers. In addition, this can be seen from the large number of participants who participated, reaching more than 150 participants from active Occupational Safety and Health students at Airlangga University. Through this activity, students are expected to be able to prepare a mature plan when they later enter the world of work as fresh graduates.
