VOKASI NEWS — UNAIR English D3 Students Made it to the Preliminary Final in the Match to Find Representatives for the National University Debating Championship.
The spirit of competition at Universitas Airlangga reached its peak when D3 English students made it to the final. In the preliminaries to determine who will represent in the National University Debating Championship (NUDC). It was a tense stage in the quest to find the best representatives to face this prestigious national debate competition.
Debate competition at UNAIR are always known to be fierce and the level is very high. This year, the students of D3 English programme were able to reach the final in the preliminary stage. In the on going matches they have defeated competitor from various other study program.
This elimination final is a highly anticipated match. It will determine who has the right to represents UNAIR in NUDC, a national level debate competition attended by renowned universities throughout Indonesia.
Sharing With Intan and Kayla Experience
In the opportunity to speak with Intan and Kayla as the final participant from D3 English programme UNAIR. They shared their experiences and views on this competition
What made them interested ?
The first question ask what made them interested in joining debate competition representing UNAIR.
Intan said: “In life, I often meet people who still need education or don’t understand what I want to say. So I debate with them. I also got good grades in the denat course in semester 3. Through this, I realised the potential in myself so that I could participate in a debate competition on a larger scale”
Then Kayla said: “In semester 3, I got good grades in the debate course. It made me interested even though I didn’t have good skills in debating, but I wanted to try a new experience”

How they prepare for preliminary round?
Second question ask how their team prepare for the preliminary round?
They did case studies that happened in the latest news, because the debate topic was not far from the latest news. In addition, we also practised with other study programme participants.
How Experience Affected Their Skill Development
The 3rd question ask how experience affected their skill Dldevelopment
Intan said It definitely improved and made me more humble in a good way. Meeting other participants who are good at debating also motivated to be better. The ability make less nervous every time speak in public.
Kayla said It is very influential because the debating techniques in the course and this competition are very different, so it have to think harder based on what she know without books or google.

Kayla: I don’t want to continue, because I already have the experience. Because I think debating is not a skill that I want to develop.
