VOKASI NEWS – The health education activity was conducted by students of the Diploma III Nursing Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Airlangga University, for adolescents in Dukuh Setro 11, Gading, Tambaksari District, Surabaya. The activity aimed to increase participants’ understanding of the human circulatory system through interactive learning methods. Initial observations showed that most participants were familiar with the heart as a vital organ but had limited knowledge about the process of blood circulation throughout the body, highlighting the need for engaging and age-appropriate health education.
Building Health Awareness from an Early Age
Understanding how the body works is important for developing healthy lifestyle habits. However, topics related to internal organs are often difficult for adolescents to understand because they cannot be observed directly. One important topic is the circulatory system, which involves the heart, blood vessels, and blood working together to maintain body functions.
Turning Complex Material into Something Engaging
To make learning more interesting, the student team used a simple blood flow simulation. Using transparent tubes, bottles, and colored liquids, participants observed how blood circulates throughout the body. Moreover, this visual approach helped them understand the concepts more easily and increased their interest in learning.
Participants’ Enthusiasm During the Activity
Participants showed enthusiasm throughout the activity. They actively asked questions about heart function, blood circulation, and healthy habits. Interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions encouraged participants to take part in the learning process rather than simply listening to explanations.
Instilling Healthy Lifestyle Habits
In addition to learning about blood circulation, participants received information about maintaining cardiovascular health through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, adequate rest, and healthy daily habits. The information was delivered using simple language suitable for their age group.
Creative Education for a Healthier Generation
This community service activity demonstrated that interactive learning methods can improve adolescents’ understanding of health topics. Through simple simulations and active participation, participants gained knowledge about the circulatory system and the importance of maintaining good health from an early age.
