VOKASI NEWS – Understanding how the respiratory system works is a crucial key for children to maintain daily body health. A well-maintained respiratory system supports physical activity and optimal growth for every elementary school student. School-aged children often do not fully understand the risks of air pollution and cigarette smoke exposure, which are very dangerous. This health education initiative serves as a preventive measure to provide deep understanding regarding the functions of body organs.
Introduce the Respiratory System Interactively
The educational activity took place on April 8, 2026, at MI Miftahul Ulum, Tikung District, Lamongan Regency. The session was led by Mohammad Syaifudin, Martya Prihartini, Pramesty Aulia Shafira Putri, and Nada Gladys Auliya Az Zahra from Group 4 GR-4C, who guided the students through an introduction to the respiratory system anatomy.
A total of 30 students from grades 4 to 6 participated in the session using various engaging visual posters. Material regarding the role of the nose, throat, and lungs was delivered through a visual approach to be easily understood by all students present. Furthermore, identifying early symptoms of respiratory disorders, such as shortness of breath or persistent coughing, became the main focus of every warm discussion session.
Instilling Clean and Healthy Living Behavior
Discussions regarding Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) became an important part of encouraging healthier lifestyle changes for students. Maintaining a clean school environment can effectively reduce dust, one of the common triggers of respiratory allergies in children. A cleaner environment also helps support children’s overall respiratory health. Dr. Ns. Hafna Ilmy Muhalla, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep., M.B., as the supervising lecturer, stated that continuous education is the main key to the success of respiratory disease prevention in school children. This health literacy initiative is expected to foster a safer, more comfortable, and healthier school environment. It also encourages the entire school community to adopt healthier daily habits.
Hopes for the Children’s Future
Activity evaluations showed an increase in students’ ability to recognize early symptoms of respiratory disorders quickly and accurately. Moreover, students showed a substantial improvement in their understanding of the negative effects of cigarette smoke on children’s lung health. This increased awareness is expected to encourage healthier habits both at school and at home.
This health promotion model is highly recommended to become a standard routine activity carried out continuously in every elementary school. A clean school environment will ensure optimal growth and development processes for all students toward a bright future. Furthermore, this program serves as real proof that concern for health from an early age is a valuable investment for the quality of life of Indonesia’s future generation.
