VOKASI NEWS – Children’s health is strongly influenced by the ability of their immune system to protect the body. The immune system protects the body from various disease-causing microorganisms. Children aged 6–10 years experience rapid growth and development. However, their immune systems are still developing during this period. Therefore, health educators provide education about maintaining immune function. This effort helps prevent illness and build healthy habits from an early age.
The Role and Function of the Immune System in Protecting the Body
The immune system acts as the body’s defense mechanism. It recognizes and eliminates harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. To maintain optimal immune function, children need to understand the importance of healthy behaviors, including consuming nutritious food, maintaining personal hygiene, getting enough rest, exercising regularly, and protecting themselves from exposure to disease-causing microorganisms.
Personal and Environmental Hygiene as Key Factors in Immune Health
One of the main factors affecting children’s immune health is personal and environmental hygiene. Poor hygiene practices, such as not washing hands properly, consuming unclean food, and living in an unhealthy environment, can increase the risk of infectious diseases such as respiratory infections and diarrhea. Simple behaviors, including washing hands with soap, keeping nails clean, maintaining oral hygiene, and keeping the surrounding environment clean, can significantly reduce the transmission of pathogens.
The Importance of Balanced Nutrition for Supporting the Immune System
In addition to hygiene, balanced nutrition also plays an important role in supporting the immune system. Nutrients such as protein, vitamins, and minerals are needed for immune cell formation, antibody production, and regulation of immune responses. Children who receive adequate nutrition have better protection against infections and support optimal growth and development.
Implementation of Immune Health Education at TPQ GBA Housing Complex
Health education activities conducted at TPQ (Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an) in GBA Housing Complex aim to increase children’s knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of maintaining immune health. The educational activity uses interactive methods, including simple explanations, posters, leaflets, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. These methods are adjusted to children’s developmental levels to make the learning process more enjoyable and easier to understand.
Through this health education program, children are expected to understand the importance of maintaining their immune system and be able to apply healthy behaviors in their daily lives. This activity also supports the role of nurses as health educators who contribute to disease prevention, health promotion, and improving the quality of life in the community.
